No kidding, it takes a lot of preparation on a boat. Especially for a transatlantic! Louis did some of his grocery shopping yesterday: non-perishable food, water, and sufficient instant soups.
For those who don't know, these items are essential at sea. The first time I was on the ocean (from New York to Virginia and from North Carolina to the Bahamas (for a sailboat delivery years ago) I was wondering why the captain was asking us to buy so many of these indispensable soups. Oh how useful it was in the end! I was then able to pass the information on to Louis during our trips to the Gulf of St. Lawrence and around Newfoundland You never stop learning! In the evening you don't necessarily want to cook on your night shifts and it's an easy way to put something in your stomach.
Louis also installed exterior lights on the sailboat and a radar deflector. You have to stay safe and be seen by other boats.
Sometimes there are also some small unexpected events. Louis split his heel while working on the boat. Nothing serious, I assure you, but enough to require a little cleaning. Louis took the opportunity to clean the wound with soap and water, and to be sure to properly disinfect the inside of the wound, he poured scotch on it.
I quote him: "Pretty sure people in the movies underestimate the extent of the pain. But at least it smelled like scotch."
No comment from my end ;)
He will continue the preparation today as he rests his foot before the departure.
