Fantastic day! We spent the day with amazing people. Louis went scuba diving and I did snorkeling for the first time. Got up with the alarm at 7:30 to grab a sandwich and join the group for departure. Houla, our master diver, Suzanna our zodiac driver/helmsman and Andreas the other diver with us this morning. We returned, without knowing it, near Tacorón (the place we discovered yesterday to swim). I let the divers go into the water first to take pictures and then I stuck my nose in my mask and jumped. I spent 40 minutes in the water sticking my head out every now and then and telling Suzanna how fantastic it was and how I couldn't believe I didn't hold my nose in the mask. Being so free in the water, I loved it! I got back into the zodiac 10 minutes before the divers because I was getting cold. And I chatted with Suzanna during that time.
Houla told me at the beginning of the day that I had a choice of going with them only in the morning or going back also for the 2nd dive in the afternoon. Guess what?
Arrived at the port, I hurried to go to the pharmacy to get some ibuprofen before it closed (10-13h). Then we all went for coffee. Antoinette, Andreas' wife came to join us there, we had a good time and then she decided to join us for the afternoon. So I had a snorkeling partner. Fantastic 2nd destination: we saw several fish near large rocks that went close to the surface. The bottom of the water is so clear. I can't say how many meters I could see, but I could see rocks and pebbles at the bottom. I followed Antoinette who had no fins. First because Suzanna had to look in one direction and see us both for safety, then to practice my future diving techniques (always be attentive to her partner) and then for safety: since I was going faster than Antoinette with my flippers, I watched over our “well being”, even if in the end I might not have known what to do if something happened, except call Suzanna :)
We made a good team and we even went to see the devil's cave, but we didn't enter it. It would have taken a bit of climbing to get there without knowing what we would have found there. We looked at each other, we said to each other:
"do you want to go?"
"No and you?"
"No, so we're backtracking."
Good team communication! When we came back, we saw the men and Houla coming back to the zodiac. So it was time for us to come back too.
Louis also loved his dives. He saw plenty of fish on his first dive and volcanic formations. On his second dive they entered a volcanic vent/cave. They saw moray eels, canary lobsters (without antenna; and it's 3000 euros fine if someone catches one). They also saw anemones, spider crabs, sponges, blowfish, etc. It was extraordinary!
Oh, it was Louis' first time diving with a mustache/beard and it went really well with the mask. Me, on my second entry into the water, I jumped with my mask, without blocking my nose. For those who know me, that's a feat. Well you will tell me that it was protected with the mask, but in case the mask would have come off... I was ready to take the risk. Brave, right? ;)
Incredible day that we did not want to see end. Fortunately, after washing and setting up the equipment, we all went for a drink and a bite to eat. Incredible people. I also went to take a picture of a dog, “Bimba” and his master Eduardo. I asked my group how to say "can I take a picture of your dog?" in Spanish, and when I got to the master, I asked him if he spoke English. Yes. Yippee! Then he told me that he also spoke French. We started talking and I always started talking in English again, my English not at all perfect. Strange that I was not able to speak in my own language. I spoke all day in English, maybe that's the reason. At least I was able to speak French with Louis when we left.
In addition, Andreas and Antoinette will be at La Gomera soon, so we may have the chance to see them again with our friends Max and Andrea.
A magical day! In addition, we had lots of suggestions on where to go and what to do from our new friends so we still have several great days ahead of us.
For anyone who would like to dive, Houla and Suzanna are amazing. Houla quickly puts us in confidence and knows what she is talking about. She helped me with my nose/nose clip “problem”. I still have work to do, but she's the first to understand what I've been trying to explain for a long time. We recommend diving with her anytime! And if one day I come back and I learned to dive, for sure I want to go with her. Extra Divers Worldwide Canaries every time!
Dinner at the same restaurant: Tasca Restingolita, very good recommendations from all our new acquaintances for this restaurant that we liked yesterday. Waiters who don't really speak English but who work hard to make us understood.
