Oh what a lump in my throat last night when he told me he was leaving this morning. I would have delayed the moment a little longer. On the other hand, I am happy to have managed to sleep like a baby at 8:45 p.m. I was exhausted! What helped me sleep so fast was that I thought to myself that at least he was still docked and safe, but hey, this day is his and not mine.
So here we are on D-Day! The day he's been waiting for for years! He even bought a bigger sailboat (that one) to prepare for this crossing. During the crossing, I will stay in sporadic contact with Louis to inform you of his progress and ensure his safety. If you are interested, here is the link to follow him on the Atlantic Ocean:
Let's go!!
He cast off at 9:33 a.m. Newfoundland time (8:03 a.m. in Quebec) in the fog. He begins his voyage in Conception Bay with a light breeze of about 5 knots (about 10km/h). Then in the afternoon when he leaves the bay to take the Allée des Icebergs, there should be a wind called "pretty breeze" of 10-15 knots (18-28 km/h): a perfect wind for sailing. We also received the information, by an oil station, that there are few Icebergs at the moment, so even safer for Louis to start his crossing today.
I will continue soon with other information/photos/videos, I know many people really want to follow him.
If you want more punctual information, check out our Sailing Soleau Facebook page or our Instagram (be patient and give me the day to update).
